LEARNING AS AN ADVENTUROUS VOYAGE

Learning is an everlasting process because it always remains fresh; each moment we attempt to learn something, we get a scintilla that sparks our mind. So, let’s dive deep into it and try to touch the unfathomable possibility it offers.

The charm of childhood

We can’t discover life without exploring its facades as life loses its value without a quest. That’s how learning makes life meaningful; it revitalises the worn paths of the life course. Childhood is the time of magical days because each day unfolds a mystery, and the days spring in curiosity. However, the charm gets faded with the drift of time, and finally, we find ourselves standing on the threshold where we pretend to cease learning. But a unique stream of thought defines life as magical as childhood days. They credit learning zeal to it.

The everlasting fragrance of learning

One of the most outstanding scientists and wonderful human beings, Sir Isaac Newton, dived deep in expressing his zeal for learning, “Each time I learn something, I realise how little I know.” Acquaintance gives meaning to us; that’s why we, the human race, always find a way out of monotony. If we ponder over great thinkers, we’ll discern that they correlate the end of youth not with physical agility but the end of avidity to learn.

Learning as a quest

Some take learning as a quest; they savour each step and acquire precious gems to décor the aesthetic and conceptual spheres of life. However, the thing that makes learning fun is the curious heart. In the process of meticulous analysis, if we analyse it as a palaeontologist who unearths a relic slowly with a new exquisite adventure, we will get the same thrill, excitement and zeal. Taking a lesson is similar to going on an adventurous expedition. In the words of Ulysses, “I want to drink the last drop of life.” Alfred Lord Tennyson revived the concept of everlasting youth, that’s the never-ending zeal of adventure. He gives his mental silhouette to his famous character, Ulysses, who enjoys experience till his last breath.

When learning turns into a habit

After scribbling his signature on the last page of his magnum opus ‘Great Expectation’, Charles Dicken went for a stroll outside his study room. It was the time of celebration as he had accomplished his long lingering dream of writing ‘Great Expectation’. Hardly a few minutes, the gentleman felt a surging restlessness. He just remembered the hanging light of his study room and the smooth flow of quill on paper. His heart sank into disappointment for saying farewell to Pip, the protagonist of his novel and his world.

The anecdote depicts the intensity of his modus operandi. It was the fun activity his mind needed, albeit we think it a burden. In other words, complete immersion in learning creates enormous fun. The phenomenon is the same with learning; an immersion, a plunge into creativity, brings about an exquisite experience. Not surprisingly, we incline towards a subject with intensity resulting in it being our favourite one. The likeness of a subject attributes to our immersion in it; we dive deep into its contents. Therefore, the fun of learning lies in our learning zeal, obsession, and savouring it as a curiosity laden adventurous voyage.
