I’m a student and I will be a student till my last breath. It’s been 15 years of my teaching and every day I read the same book; I learn something new.
Many times, it happens that whenever I read the course book or prepare a lesson for the next day, the same questions are asked by the people around and in fact, now my 8 years old daughter also, “what’s the need to read the same book again and again as you have been teaching the same subject for these many years and there is no change in the book too?”
The students whom I have taught over the years have now become doctors, engineers, government officials etc. ButI still read the same book and learn something new out of it.
It may appear that I haven’t moved an inch, nevertheless, I am learning something new every day.
The book is the same, methods, strategies and curriculum have undergone changes with the change in time and may I say with the change in Government too, it won’t be incorrect to say so!
As a teacher, I have to learn every day, something new despite teaching the same subject and the same book because the book and the subject maybe the same, but the students and the times are different.
And the fact remains that I am reading the same book of the same subject time and again because I have to fit in the same content in the mind of different students with different psychology, that’s why I read the same book and every time I learn something new out of it.
Today also, with the present scenario of pandemic, teachers are learning to use different tools, strategies, and are incorporating technology in teaching. But still the same book has to be read and something new has to be derived out of it.
Learning is a continuous flow of water. When the flow is stopped thinking that enough has been attained, that very day learning will stop.
Hence, one must never close doors to the sources of knowledge. One gets to learn even from nature. Everyone around us is a source of knowledge and learning.
The book may have been read many a times day in and day out, but every time I take it in my hands, there is a newfound knowledge, maybe the delivery in spite of the content being the same. I am challenging myself in reaching it out to various students and their level of understanding, year after year!
That’s the reason I say I am a student, and I will be a student till my last breath.
